ADHESIONS Notes on "Primavera" at Hovel , June 2026
Commissioned by Michael Curran for the closing event of his spring programme at Hovel, London.
"In mid March I asked Dario to take part in HOVEL's Spring Season by responding to the 2022 incident of young climate activists glueing themselves to Botticelli's PRIMAVERA, as a point of departure.
Influenced by his own direct experience of protest movements and his current work as an editor in the ultra fast-paced field of fashion advertising, where messages are often communicated in a matter of seconds, Dario works through the language of the advert, the feed and the viral clip.
Protesting, consuming, transforming, belonging, performing, searching — Adhesions brings these impulses into proximity without resolving them into a single argument." Michael Curran
"Adhesions are physical, social and psychological. They are things sticking together, but also people adhering to beliefs, causes, aesthetics, communities and images. They suggest attachment, belonging, commitment and conformity in equal measure.
The work itself is constructed through adhesion. It is essentially a collage. I'm interested in what emerges when different visual worlds are brought into contact.
The youth in the work are protesting, consuming, transforming, optimising, belonging, performing and searching. I'm not trying to distinguish clearly between these activities so much as observe how close they sometimes appear to one another." Dario Vigorito
